| Kommentar til obs.: | Putative candidate Gråmåge x Svartbag hybrid Features Bicoloured bill at a much earlier than expected in great black backed gull Bill shape with parallel based lower mandible like glaucous gull, finer than typical great black backed gull Strong white eye arcs typical of glaucous hybrids and looking slightly different than usual great black backed eye arcs Alert head feather position with raised feathers in front of eye typical of a glaucous gull head shape Size more similar to glaucous gull and quite a bit smaller than typical great black backed gull Primary and secondaries with typical 2k type darker notches at the tips of the flight feathers Underwing white which would be expected to be darker in a bleached bird that originally had black upper sides to the primaries Primaries with frosted edges Back plumage speckled like great black backed with quite pale specks compared to a typical bird but could have been darker before bleaching Feather quality not overly worn Outer primaries with darker outer webs and whitish inner webs Lacking fine lower neck streaking seen on 2k great black backed gull Significantly less sloping forehead than typical great black backed gull Has not moulted any of the 10 primaries unlike a lot of the 2k great black backed this time of year |
